Downey Pool Replacement

About This Project

The Downey Pool project involved the replacement of a structurally-unstable pool (which had been closed for years) with a competition-sized pool and an activity pool for small children. Recognizing the evident need for community recreational space, the main aim became the creation of a playful, healthy and efficient environment for all age groups.  Given the Rec Center’s advantageous location, the pool’s orientation and surrounding fencing design maintains and maximizes the scenic views of two historic bridges near the downtown area, the Los Angeles River, and the Los Angeles State Historic Park across the River.
