Aug 2019 FSY’s submission to 2019 AIA Film Challenge a Finalist
FSY Architects is excited to be a Finalist for the 2019 AIA Film Challenge! The 5th annual AIA Film Challenge invited architects and filmmakers to collaborate to share stories of architects and civic leaders working together to create resilient and sustainable communities.
FSY’s submission, entitled Enduring Valor is a short, 5-minute documentary showcasing Silver Star Apartments, a zero-net energy affordable housing development for formerly homelessness veterans in Los Angeles. The housing project was a collaboration between A Community of Friends, a non-profit developer, and FSY Architects, the architect, both based in Los Angeles. The film highlights several Silver Star residents, all U.S. veterans, who have been impacted by homelessness. They each moved into Silver Star Apartments just after the project’s completion in July 2017. Through the support of A Community of Friends and U.S. VETS, as well as their enduring valor, these veterans have overcome major life challenges and built a community in a place they can call home.
A panel of judges made up of architects and film/media professionals will select the Grand Prize Winner, the Runner Up, and the Third Place Winner based on the films’ adherence to the prompt, storytelling arc, architectural placement, and technical merit. There is also a People’s Choice Award winner chosen by public voting. VOTE HERE. Winners for both awards will be announced in October 2019.
