Rosewood Gardens

About This Project

Rosewood Gardens is a one-hundred percent affordable senior housing development located directly adjacent to an existing gothic revival church built in 1926, Rosewood Methodist Church. The project is comprised of fifty-four one-bedroom dwelling units housed within a five-storey building and includes a large community center at street level. The latter allows the continuation of the pedestrian street experience along Rosewood Avenue while a large open space and “promenade” visually joins the apartment and church sites. This creates a lushly landscaped buffer between the two building masses. The new building draws inspiration from the existing church architecture and materials and reinterprets key elements in a more contemporary manner. In keeping with one of fsy’s core design drivers, environmental responsibility, on-site energy generation for common area lighting and water heating is provided for with the provision of solar energy.
