Ricardo Montalban Theatre

About This Project

The 1200-seat Ricardo Montalban Theatre, proximate to the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine, was originally known as the Vine Street Theatre. While the building underwent major renovations in 1954 as the Huntington Hartford Theatre, and in 1984 as the Doolittle Theatre, the renovation work undertaken by fsy took effect in several phases. The first phase of work involved the restoration of the front façade to evoke the original design of 1927. Contemporary amenities and a new marquee were added subsequently to engage a thriving boulevard of pedestrian activity and to create a presence in keeping with the new vernacular of Hollywood—all while maintaining its aesthetic and relevance to the 1920’s.
