The state-of-the-art Center for the Arts at the Carnegie Mellon University campus houses the performance spaces for the School of Drama and a museum/gallery for the School of Art. The prestigious School of Drama is the first degree granting school in the nation. Designed to be versatile in configuration, the main stage is transformable to various stage and seating modes and has variable acoustics for its different uses. A false proscenium allows for a range of stage openings and a rotating tormentor wall, while the facility has all the audience, artistic and technical support spaces necessary for optimum functioning.
The venues include a 450 to 500-seat theatre for operas, musicals and plays and (by the School of Music), a 130-seat flexible black box theatre and a video sound stage.
